Jakarta, Pintu News – The Pi Network core team has officially decommissioned their central node, marking an important and symbolic step towards a more decentralized system.

This move comes after they promised a major announcement regarding the Pi ecosystem, which coincides with the Consensus 2025 event in Toronto that starts today.

Pi Network Shuts Down Central Node Ahead of Source Code Release

Pi Network’s core team has reportedly officially decommissioned their central node-an important step that reinforces the project’s commitment to full decentralization.

Alongside this move, Pi Network also announced plans to release their source code to the public.

The Pi Network VietNames community account on X (Twitter) wrote,

“The Pi core team has closed the central node, preparing to release the source code. Pi Network will really shake up the Consensus 2025 event.”

The post also featured a network diagram showing that the central node had been removed.

This move is in line with Pi Network’s mission from the beginning to move away from a centralized system towards a fully decentralized blockchain, secured through their own proprietary consensus mechanism, IPoS (Improved Proof of Stake).

Source Code Expected to Increase Transparency and Trust

Furthermore, Web3 researcher and Pi supporter Tanner said,

“There is no more FUD about centralized scams or hidden logic. If there is a bug or loophole, everyone will know. If this consensus model is really secure, it will also be visible. This is a form of credibility on top of blockchain.”

The planned release of the source code is expected to increase transparency and community trust, especially amid long-standing doubts about the extent to which Pi is truly decentralized.

The referral-based mining model and the governance structure, which is considered non-transparent, still raise big questions about whether true decentralization can be achieved. Critics highlight Pi Network’s supernode architecture as a potential risk of centralization.

As reported by BeInCrypto, Pi Network’s core team still holds primary control in supernode elections, and is also known to control around 82.8 billion PI coins – sparking concerns about the concentration of power in the ecosystem.

Strategic Moment as the 2025 Consensus Begins

Pi Network’s latest development doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. In a post on May 8, Pi Network had hinted that there would be a big announcement, which is likely to be officially announced during the Consensus 2025 event.

Enthusiasm was on the rise, especially after Wednesday’s post that implied an important reveal.

“I think the time has come. May 14, 2025-Pi will Explode,” wrote the Pi UpdatesDaily account.

Amidst the euphoria of Consensus 2025, which Pi Network representatives attended, the community is now looking forward to three key moments.

In addition to the mysterious announcement of the Pi ecosystem scheduled for Wednesday, there’s also something called “GREAT/GOOD” coming up on Thursday, May 15, as well as a speech from Dr. Nicolas, co-founder of Pi Network, in Toronto on May 16.

“May 14: Announcement from the Pi Ecosystem, May 15: Hints of something GREAT/GOOD, May 16: Dr. Nicolas will appear on stage,” Pi UpdatesDaily continues.

Consensus 2025, as one of the biggest stages of the blockchain world, is potentially a crucial moment for Pi Network to change public perception. This is because concerns about the project still exist-from accusations of scams, a mainnet that is still closed, to a coin transfer feature that is not yet generally available.

Despite claims of decentralization, users in some regions still experience access restrictions, such as the need to use a VPN to access Lightning features. This highlights the issue of openness and inclusivity in the Pi ecosystem, which has yet to be fully realized.

Pi Network Mining App Has Been Downloaded 100 Million Times

On the other hand, there have been positive developments such as the recent updates to the Pi Network and Pi Browser mining apps on the Google Play Store.

“The mining Pi Network and Pi Browser apps are getting new updates in the Play Store today, just before the big announcement,” said one Pi community leader.

Currently, the Pi Network mining app has recorded over 100 million downloads, while Pi Browser has reached 10 million downloads. However, amidst all the updates, the community is still hoping for one thing that has yet to be achieved: a listing on Binance, a major milestone that still feels far away.

If Pi Network manages to show real progress in terms of decentralization and open development, then the project might finally transform from a speculative mining application into a legitimate and credible Layer-1 protocol.
