Jakarta, Pintu News – The rapid growth of the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) shows potential to surpass the amount of Bitcoin owned by Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, by the end of 2026. At the current pace of accumulation, IBIT is expected to hold more than 1 million Bitcoin within the next 18 months.

Rapid Growth of BlackRock IBIT

According to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst, Eric Balchunas, BlackRock IBIT currently owns around 660,842 Bitcoin (BTC). This puts them in second place as the world’s largest Bitcoin holder, only behind Satoshi Nakamoto who is estimated to own around 1,123,500 Bitcoin (BTC).

If current trends continue, BlackRock IBIT is expected to surpass that number in the next few years. This growth is not only staggering in terms of numbers, but also speed. In just 16 months since its launch, BlackRock IBIT has become one of the largest ETFs in the world. With nearly $70 billion in assets under management, it has attracted institutional and retail investors looking for exposure to Bitcoin.

In addition to being the second largest holder of Bitcoin, BlackRock IBIT has also made it to the list of the 25 largest ETFs in the world. According to data shared by Eric Balchunas, IBIT is the youngest ETF on the list, with only 1.4 years of history. This shows how fast the assets in these ETFs are growing compared to long-established funds.

Eric Balchunas described IBIT’s rise as unprecedented, emphasizing that the ETF format offering liquidity, trust and ease of access has been key to their success. This represents a significant shift in the way investors approach Bitcoin investment.

Recent Bitcoin Transactions and Their Impact

Recent on-chain data shows that BlackRock has transferred 5,362 Bitcoin (BTC) worth over $560 million to its Coinbase Prime account in two days. These transfers typically occur before trading or rebalancing activity. Coinbase Prime is widely used by institutional clients for storage and trading.

While there were Bitcoin (BTC) withdrawals from BlackRock IBIT and other spot Bitcoin ETFs totaling over $550 million on May 30 and June 2, there is no official indication that BlackRock is reducing their exposure to Bitcoin overall. In addition, BlackRock also withdrew 27,241 Ethereum worth approximately $69 million from Coinbase.

Conclusion

With rapid growth and an aggressive accumulation strategy, BlackRock IBIT is on track to become the largest Bitcoin holder in the world, surpassing even the mysterious creator of Bitcoin itself. This marks a new era in institutional investment in cryptocurrencies and may set a new precedent in digital asset management.
