Jakarta, Pintu News – Austin Federa, co-founder of a blockchain infrastructure project called DoubleZero, revealed that the main bottleneck in the performance of blockchain networks today no longer lies in computing power or software development.
According to him, public internet infrastructure is a significant bottleneck in supporting high-throughput blockchain networks.
Federa said this in an interview with Cointelegraph during the Consensus 2025 event in Toronto, Canada. He mentioned that the public internet architecture is not designed for dynamic high-performance systems like modern blockchain networks.
DoubleZero is a project founded by Austin Federa in late 2024 after he left the Solana Foundation. DoubleZero’s main mission is to build fiber-optic-based communication lines specifically designed to support blockchain performance.
By focusing on reducing latency-the time it takes for data to move between points-and increasing bandwidth, DoubleZero seeks to create a new communications infrastructure that can efficiently accommodate big data traffic.
Networks like DoubleZero’s will allow blockchains to operate much faster, narrowing the price gap in decentralized finance trading and lowering transaction costs. In addition, the project opens up potential new use cases that were previously impossible due to communication network limitations.

According to Federa, the increasing need for high throughput in modern crypto networks has made legacy communication infrastructure irrelevant. This prompted the DoubleZero team to develop a new solution that approaches infrastructure from the ground up.
In April 2025, DoubleZero conducted a validator token sale to accredited investors and active node operators on blockchain networks such as Solana , Celestia, Sui, Aptos, and Avalanche.
This sale scheme was aimed at attracting node operators who wanted to become validators on the DoubleZero network at mainnet launch. The funds raised from this sale reached $28 million. This move proves the high interest from the crypto community in high-performance communication solutions for blockchain.
DoubleZero is targeting a public mainnet launch in the second half of 2025, following the success of the funding. Federa emphasized that it is no longer software or CPU issues that limit the potential of blockchain, but rather the limitations of communication networks.
He sees the future performance improvement of crypto networks relying heavily on specialized communication infrastructure like that offered by DoubleZero. This vision positions their project as a pioneer in the field of telecommunications for blockchain technology.
The rapid development of cryptocurrency and blockchain demands innovation not only in terms of software and computing, but also communication infrastructure. DoubleZero is meeting this challenge by building a dedicated fiber optic network that will accelerate, stabilize, and extend blockchain capabilities.
