Sam Bankman-Fried Expected to Be Released Early — Here’s Why!

Jakarta, Pintu News – Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of FTX, is expected to be released from prison in December 2044, four years earlier than his original 25-year sentence.

According to a report from Business Insider, Bankman-Fried, who was sentenced in March 2024 on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy, now has his prison term reduced to 21 years.

This reduction was due to his good behavior while in prison, participation in prison programs, as well as the time he spent in prison before the sentence was handed down.

Calculation of Free Time and Sentence Reduction Factor

The US Bureau of Prisons (BOP) explains that inmates’ release dates are calculated based on good behavior, known as “Good Conduct Time”. Each inmate can get 54 days per year reduced from their sentence if they show good behavior.

In addition, prisoners can also get their time reduced by participating in certain programs offered at the prison. Another factor is credit for time served prior to sentencing, which also applies to Bankman-Fried.

Transition to a Lower Security Facility

In April this year, Bankman-Fried was transferred from the notoriously harsh facility, dubbed “Victimville”, to a low-security prison in California.

Although the reason for the transfer was not publicly disclosed, Bankman-Fried’s lawyer had previously requested that his client be transferred to a low-security prison.

The reasons given were Bankman-Fried’s autism and the absence of a previous criminal record, which were taken into consideration in the request.
