Jakarta, Pintu News – Tesla has just announced a partnership with Tencent Cloud to bring new software capabilities to its electric vehicles in China. This collaboration is Tesla’s next step to strengthen its position in the world’s largest electric car market.

Through this partnership, WeChat location data will be integrated directly into Tesla cars. Based on the data, drivers will get smart suggestions to help them drive and navigate more efficiently.

Tesla plans to release these features via an over-the-air software update for Model 3 and Model Y cars already in circulation in China. All new Tesla models sold in the country will also come with this feature as standard equipment.

The intraday chart shows that the price had climbed to roughly IDR 7,318,144 before reversing course and sliding back toward an intraday low near IDR 6,977,137.

Strengthening Position in the Chinese Market

This collaboration with Tencent Cloud comes amid increasing competition Tesla faces from local electric car manufacturers in China. In recent years, domestic brands have managed to capture market share thanks to competitive pricing and features tailored to the needs of Chinese consumers.

Tencent’s WeChat platform has more than one billion users in China. By integrating WeChat location services into Tesla vehicles, the driving experience for users in China who already use the app daily is expected to become more seamless and unified.

Long-term Partnership

Tencent first invested in Tesla in 2017, buying a roughly 5% stake worth $1.78 billion. The investment comes as Tesla prepares to go deeper into the Chinese market and build its production facility there.

Since then, Tesla has become one of the best-selling electric vehicle brands in China. The company operates a large factory in Shanghai that produces cars for the domestic market as well as for export to other countries.

This latest cabin technology demonstrates the deepening cooperation between the two companies. By utilizing Tencent’s cloud infrastructure and WeChat ecosystem, Tesla seeks to bring features that are more relevant to Chinese consumer preferences.

The over-the-air update capability allows Tesla to add new features without the need for customers to come to the service center. This approach has been an important part of Tesla’s strategy to continuously improve the capabilities of its cars after they are purchased.

The Model 3 and Model Y are Tesla’s two most popular models in China. In particular, the Model Y consistently takes the top spot on the list of best-selling SUVs in the country, covering all types of power sources, both electric and non-electric.

The partnership announcement comes at a time when Tesla must continue to maneuver amidst a fierce competitive landscape in China. Local competitors such as BYD, NIO, and XPeng have each launched new models with advanced technology targeting Chinese consumers.

Tencent Cloud’s involvement in automotive technology is also growing. The company has teamed up with various other automakers to provide cloud services and connectivity solutions for internet-connected vehicles.

The WeChat integration will allow Tesla drivers to share their location, access saved destinations, and receive contextual suggestions based on their driving patterns. These features are designed to make the in-car experience more intuitive for users who are already familiar with the WeChat interface.

Tesla has not disclosed the details of the over-the-air update rollout schedule. However, the company usually rolls out updates gradually to its entire fleet of vehicles to monitor performance and promptly address any potential issues that arise.
