Bitcoin Accumulation Strategy

Metaplanet has adopted an aggressive strategy of buying Bitcoin since last year. With a total investment of about $1.94 billion, the company has reached the position of being the seventh largest Bitcoin holder in the world.

Furthermore, the company managed to record a net profit of 11.1 billion yen ($75.1 million), a significant achievement compared to the loss experienced in the first quarter.

These strong earnings were driven by the performance of their Bitcoin investments, which have delivered an annualized return of 468.1%. This far exceeds the 7.2% average gain of the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) Core 30.

Although Metaplanet shares fell 8.6%, the strong financial performance attracted investor interest and increased market confidence in their strategy.

Future Prospects and Plans

Metaplanet has set an ambitious target of controlling 1% of the total Bitcoin supply by acquiring 210,000 BTC by 2027. With current holdings, they are only 11,112 BTC away from their annual target of owning 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025.

To achieve this, Metaplanet plans to continue buying Bitcoin and has submitted a plan to raise 555 billion yen ($3.8 billion) through the issuance of two classes of Bitcoin-backed preferred shares.
