AI Prefers Bitcoin to Fiat Money, BPI Study Shocks the Financial World!

Jakarta, Pintu News – The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the financial world is growing rapidly. Recently, a study from the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) revealed the surprising tendency of AI in choosing financial instruments.

The results of this study show that the majority of AI models favor Bitcoin (BTC) over both fiat money and stablecoins in various economic scenarios. These findings raise big questions about the future of digital money and the role of AI in shaping the global financial ecosystem.

BPI Study: AI Prefers Bitcoin (BTC) to Other Instruments

The research conducted by the Bitcoin Policy Institute involved 36 AI models from six different providers, generating over 9,000 responses regarding financial instrument preferences.

Of these responses, 48.3% of AI models chose Bitcoin (BTC) as the primary tool for economic activity. Bitcoin (BTC) was the most chosen monetary instrument, outperforming stablecoins, altcoins, and traditional fiat money. This finding shows a strong tendency for AI to favor decentralized and censorship-resistant digital assets.

In a scenario that emphasized the importance of maintaining purchasing power over the long term, 79.1% of AI responses chose Bitcoin (BTC). This was the most striking result in the study, signaling AI confidence in Bitcoin’s (BTC) ability to retain value.

Meanwhile, stablecoins were only chosen by a small percentage of AI models in this context. Fiat money was almost never the top choice, revealing a paradigm shift in AI monetary preferences.

Stablecoins are winning for payments, but Bitcoin (BTC) remains the long-term favorite

While Bitcoin (BTC) dominated in store-of-value scenarios, stablecoins were preferred for payments, services and cross-border transfers. In payment scenarios, stablecoins were chosen by 53.2% of AI responses, while Bitcoin (BTC) only received 36%.

This suggests that AI considers stablecoins to be more efficient and stable for everyday transactions, especially as their value is less likely to fluctuate sharply. However, in the context of long-term investment, Bitcoin (BTC) remains the top choice due to its inflation-proof nature and not being tied to any country’s monetary policy.

Jeff Park, Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer, highlighted that one of the reasons stablecoins are not superior is because these assets can be frozen, whereas Bitcoin (BTC) cannot. Bitcoin (BTC)’s advantages in terms of decentralization and resistance to censorship are major factors in AI’s preference.

Additionally, nearly 91% of AI responses chose digital instruments such as Bitcoin (BTC), stablecoins, altcoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), or computational units over fiat money. None of the 36 AI models tested chose fiat money as the top preference, signaling a very strong digital convergence among AIs.

Study Limitations and the Effect of Framing on Results

The Bitcoin Policy Institute recognizes the limitations in the methodology of this study. The study only involved 36 AI models from six providers, so the results are not necessarily representative of the entire AI ecosystem.

In addition, the framing or the way questions are organized in the prompt system can also affect the results obtained. BPI plans to expand the research by adding more models and testing different framings in the future.

Some of the scenarios posed to the AI did tend to steer the model away from fiat money. For example, in one scenario, the AI was asked to choose a financial instrument to store $75,000 in different countries without being tied to a particular country’s monetary policy or banking system.

Such a scenario automatically removes fiat money from the top choices. BPI also emphasized that AI preferences do not reflect real-world adoption, but rather patterns reflected in AI model training data.
