India Adopts Avalanche Blockchain to Secure 700,000 Land Records – A Major Leap in Digital Ownership!

Jakarta, Pintu News – The Dantewada district government in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh has taken a major step in modernizing the land administration system.

On March 6, 2025, the local government announced that more than 700,000 land records dating back to the 1950s had been digitized and stored on the Avalanche (AVAX) blockchain.

According to Cointelegraph, the Dantewada district government’s latest project was developed in collaboration with Indian blockchain startup LegitDoc of Zupple Labs.

According to Mayank Chaturvedi, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official and district collector of Dantewada, the project will remove administrative barriers that have been slowing down people’s access to their land documents.

“For decades, citizens experienced significant delays in accessing their land records, where the verification process could take weeks. By digitizing and securing these documents on the blockchain, we ensure easier accessibility and prevent data falsification,” said Chaturvedi.

Data Security with Smart Contract Technology

As part of this initiative, the government has installed digital kiosks in each sub-district, allowing citizens and government officials to easily access land information. However, in order to maintain privacy, access to certain documents requires authorization from local officials.

LegitDoc CEO Neil Martis explains that the application is apermissioned system, where Tehsil (sub-district) level officials can search and download land records from the Avalanche blockchain.

With smart contract technology, every transaction and change in land records can be publicly verified through Avalanche Explorer, making the system more transparent and free from manipulation.

The records available in this blockchain system include various important documents, such as B-1 (elevator installation) forms, title certificates, plot registers, as well as cadastral maps. In this way, all land information can be checked for authenticity directly on the blockchain without the risk of forgery or data loss.

This initiative has had a huge impact on the community, especially indigenous communities and farmers in the area. Previously, many residents experienced difficulties in obtaining proof of land ownership, which was often a source of dispute.

“This initiative is groundbreaking as it has created a comprehensive digitization and blockchain-based verification of all land records dating back to the 1950s. This ensures document security, reduces legal costs, and most importantly, makes access easier for the citizens of Dantewada,” he said.
