Vitalik Buterin Proposes Changes to Make Ethereum Super Fast, Decentralized & Private!

Jakarta, Pintu News – Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin recently proposed some significant changes to improve the scalability and efficiency of Ethereum (ETH), the largest blockchain network by total locked value.

In a series of blogs and announcements, Buterin emphasized the importance of maintaining decentralization and privacy while increasing transaction speeds.

New Technology Introductions

Buterin suggested the use of partially stateless nodes to reduce the operational burden of full nodes and promote trustless data access and increased censorship resistance.

Partial nodes without this state will validate blocks without storing the full Merkle branch, meaning it only stores the part of the blockchain data relevant to each user.

This technology not only reduces resource requirements but also offers better security than lightweight clients and uses fewer resources than full nodes. This creates an ideal balance between security and efficiency, allowing users to choose which data from Ethereum (ETH) they want to store, such as specific ERC20 tokens, DeFi applications, or recently used wallets.

Short-term and Long-term Changes

In the short term, Buterin proposed implementing EIP-4444 which would limit the storage time of old blockchain data on nodes to about 36 days, which would reduce disk space usage.

Additionally, it supports a shared archive network that uses erasure coding to ensure past data remains accessible. For the long term, Buterin believes that the Ethereum (ETH) network needs to run on lighter nodes.

If approved, this would allow users to run nodes that only store data they care about, such as their tokens or applications, while verifying the chain. This approach would reduce storage requirements by half and cut dependence on outside cryptographic services.

Buterin also suggested that Ethereum (ETH) adopt a simpler structure, similar to the design of Bitcoin (BTC).

He emphasized that the design of Bitcoin (BTC) is so simple that even high school students can understand it, a clarity that is currently lacking in Ethereum (ETH).
