Jakarta, Pintu News – Recently, social media and various news outlets have been abuzz with the news that Jerome Powell, Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve, has resigned.
This news surfaced after Senator Mike Lee posted a letter that looked like a resignation letter from Powell. Is this news true, or is it just an internet rumor?
This rumor began to spread on July 22, 2025, when Senator Mike Lee of Utah shared an image on the X platform.

The image is of a letter ostensibly stating that Jerome Powell resigned from his position as Chairman of the Federal Reserve outright.
In his post, Lee wrote, “Powell resigns!”-and the news quickly spread on social media. Reporter Jordain Carney saved and shared the post before it was deleted.
The letter turned out to be fake. The letter had many irregularities. The official stamp on the letter consists of random symbols that do not form any text.
In addition, there were many spelling and grammatical errors, as well as the use of strange words. Experts who saw the letter suspected it was either AI or a joke.
There was no official announcement. Neither the Federal Reserve, the White House, nor Jerome Powell himself have confirmed a resignation.
After various parties pointed out the errors in the letter, Senator Lee deleted his post and admitted that he could not confirm its authenticity.

Recently, Powell has faced political pressure. Some politicians, including President Trump, have urged him to step down because they disagree with his policies on interest rates and large government building projects.
However, Powell still has a term remaining, and there is no official reason for him to step down early. Keep in mind, President Trump does not have direct authority to fire the Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Powell’s term still runs until May 2026.
Adding to the speculation, Bill Pulte-head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and an open critic of Powell-claimed to have information from reliable sources that Powell may step down in the near future.
Meanwhile, at Polymarket, the betting odds that Powell will be removed from his post as Fed Chair before the end of 2025 fell to 18%, down 5% from before.
