Jakarta, Pintu News – Last week, a cyberattack against several celebrity Instagram accounts took place, where hackers used the accounts to promote Solana-based meme coins (SOL) which turned out to be a pump-and-dump scheme.
Affected accounts include British singer Adele, American rapper Future, South African singer and songwriter Tyla, and the late pop star Michael Jackson.

Hackers managed to access the Instagram accounts of Adele, Future, Tyla, and Michael Jackson simultaneously. They posted AI-generated content featuring Future holding a large coin with the words FREEBANDZ, which is also the name of the clothing and music line associated with the rapper.
The Solana meme coin contract address (SOL) then surged to reach a market capitalization of $900,000 before plummeting. As a precautionary measure, Future’s Instagram account was immediately deactivated to avoid further exploitation of the brand and its more than 25 million followers. Meanwhile, Adele and other affected stars are yet to make public comments on the incident.

Instagram has not provided an official statement regarding this incident to date. However, many cybersecurity experts are calling for improvements to the platform’s security infrastructure.
This incident adds to the long list of similar attacks that have occurred, showing the security gaps that cybercriminals can still exploit.
A similar case has happened to the UFC’s official account which was also hacked earlier this year, costing crypto users $1.4 million. This shows a worrying pattern in digital information security that must be addressed immediately.

The crypto industry has seen an increase in fraudulent schemes in recent years. PeckShield, a blockchain security firm, revealed that hackers managed to steal $142 million from 17 major incidents in July 2025, a 27.2% increase compared to June 2025 which recorded losses of $111.6 million.
This incident adds to a long list of attacks that have already occurred, including last year’s hack of McDonald’s Instagram account promoting GRIMACE, a Solana-based meme coin (SOL). These attacks are not only financially costly but also undermine public confidence in the security of digital assets.
These attacks on celebrity Instagram accounts show the vulnerabilities that still exist in cybersecurity. There is a need for quick and effective steps from digital platforms and users to improve security, given the losses that can occur not only affect individuals but also on a wider scale.
