Jakarta, Pintu News – Aave Labs recently launched Horizon, a lending platform designed specifically for institutions. The platform enables stablecoin lending using Real World Assets (RWA) as collateral.
Horizon represents the first major step in integrating tokenized RWAs into the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) ecosystem, opening up new opportunities for institutional investors.
In a company blog post on Thursday (28/8), it was announced that Horizon will serve as an institutional-grade RWA(Real World Assets) marketplace.

This service allows stablecoins like USDC, GHO, and RLUSD to borrow against traditional financial assets likeUS Treasuries, corporate bonds, and money market funds(MM Fs).
This launch addresses a key challenge in institutional adoption of DeFi. Most DeFi protocols are open andpermissionless, which has been at odds with institutional investors’ strict internal policies and complex regulatory obligations.
Aave emphasized that Horizon provides a regulatory-compliant infrastructure. This infrastructure is specifically designed to meet the needs of institutions incollateralized lending.
Furthermore, this design allows blockchain-based lending activities against real-world assets to become scalable for the first time.
The company explained that, “Horizon will run on apermissioned instance of the Aave V3 protocol,” which ensures only verified participants can supply RWA collateral.
Aave also stated that the platform will provide 24/7 real-time lending services to institutional clients, with greater transparency and efficiency.
A number of big players in the industry such as Centrifuge, Circle, VanEck, WisdomTree, and Ripple have joined as early partners in the platform, with the main role being the initial asset provider.

The first collateral assets supported by the platform are tokens representing institutional-grade money market funds (MMFs) and short-term US government bonds. Examples include JAAA (by Centrifuge), USYC (by Circle), and USTB (by Superstate).
These tokens reflect the yield (return) of low-risk underlying assets, such as short-term US government bonds and AAA-rated corporate bonds. Once an institution goes through the necessary verification and compliance process, they can easily borrow these token-collateralized stablecoins for use in various DeFi applications.
The beauty of Horizon lies in its dual structure. It limits and regulates access to the RWA collateral pool to qualified investors, while keeping access to the associated stablecoin pool open to anyone.
In other words, anyone in the DeFi ecosystem can freely borrow or lend stablecoins generated from such institutional RWA collateral-opening a strong liquidity bridge between traditional and decentralized finance.
