Major Bitcoin Investors Are Turning to Ethereum — Is a $10,000 ETH on the Horizon?

Jakarta, Pintu News – A Bitcoin OG holder has accelerated capital rotation from BTC to Ethereum (ETH).

After selling more than $3 billion worth of Bitcoin (BTC) in recent days to buy Ethereum, analysis of on-chain data shows that the whale investor has again accelerated this process by making another ETH purchase on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Bitcoin OG Buys Ethereum Again

Based on analysis of on-chain data from Lookonchain, a Bitcoin OG who owns more than $5 billion worth of Bitcoin, sold 4,000 BTC on Sunday to buy 96,859 Ethereum worth more than $433 million.

Earlier in the day, the BTC whale transferred 3,000 BTC to a crypto exchange, which was then used to buy Ethereum. On Saturday, the same whale also sold 1,000 BTC for over $109 million, and went back to buying Ethereum through the Hyperliquid (HYPE) platform.

Currently, the whale has over 800,000 ETH coins, valued at around $4 billion – the majority of which have been staked for additional returns.

Institutional Investors Turn to Ethereum as Bitcoin Demand Weakens

Demand for Ethereum from institutional investors has seen a significant spike in recent times. This is reflected in the large decrease in ETH reserves on crypto exchanges.

On-chain data shows that institutional demand for Bitcoin has declined sharply in recent weeks, with most of the gains diverted to the Ethereum market.

For example, BlackRock’s ETHA has bought Ether worth about $968.2 million during the last week. BlackRock’s ETHA leads among spot Ethereum ETF issuers in the US in terms of ETH accumulation during August.

According to market aggregate data from SoSoValue, spot Ethereum ETFs in the United States recorded net cash inflows of approximately $3.87 billion throughout August. With this, the total cumulative cash inflow into US spot ETH ETFs since April to the end of August 2025 has reached over $11 billion.

Meanwhile, analysis of market data from Coingecko shows that 11 public companies – the majority of which are from the United States – have accumulated a total of 3,041,192 ETH for their treasury management. BitMine and SharpLink are leading the way with holdings of 1,713,899 and 797,704 Ethereum respectively.

On the other hand, institutional investors who were previously active in accumulating BTC for treasury management, including those led by Michael Saylor through Strategy, have seen a reduction in buying intensity in recent weeks.

In addition, spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US are expected to close August with a net cash outflow of around $751 million – ending a four-month streak of cash inflows.

Can ETH Reach $10,000?

Based on data from crypto oracles, the price of Ethereum (ETH) experienced a 3% recovery from its intraday low of around $4,340 and was in the high range of around $4,491 on August 31, 2025.

Although the large-cap altcoin – with a full valuation of around $541.5 billion – has dropped around 7% in the past week, ETH still recorded a gain of more than 24% throughout August.

In the monthly time frame, the ETH/USD pair is expected to print its highest monthly close since December 2021. In fact, ETH price briefly touched an all-time record high of $4,946 on August 24, 2025, driven by massive capital rotation from Bitcoin to Ethereum.

According to the market analyst known as Crypto Patel, the ETH price has the potential to shoot towards $10,000 if it manages to break the resistance level at $5,000.
