OpenSea Ready to Shake Up the Crypto Market with SEA Token Launch in 2026!

Jakarta, Pintu News – OpenSea, formerly known as the largest marketplace for digital collectibles, is preparing to launch its own native token called SEA in the first quarter of 2026.

The move comes after a surge in activity on the platform, following OpenSea’s decision to expand their services from just NFTs to trading all types of digital assets.

OpenSea Prepares to Launch SEA Token

On October 17, OpenSea co-founder Devin Finzer announced that a new token called SEA would be a core part of the platform’s new identity. He explained that the token reflects OpenSea’s vision to build a more open and liquid onchain economy.

“The integration of SEA into OpenSea is an opportunity to show the world our vision. It will be a highlight of everything we are building,” Finzer said.

According to Finzer, half of the total SEA token supply will be allocated to the community, with most of it being distributed through an initial claim process. Existing users and participants in the OpenSea loyalty program will be the top priority in the distribution.

The company also plans to allocate 50% of its launch revenue to buy back SEA tokens, in order to strengthen liquidity and align value between the platform and its users.

In addition, SEA tokens will also have a staking feature, allowing holders to earn rewards while supporting the growth of the network.

“SEA is not the end goal, but it is a pivotal moment that many will pay attention to. You only get one shot at a TGE (Token Generation Event). While the Foundation is finalizing the final details, we are preparing for OpenSea,” Finzer added.

NFT Marketplace Transforms into ‘Trade Everything’ App

OpenSea’s SEA token launch initiative is part of the platform’s major transformation to become a “trade everything” app – a place where users can trade all types of digital assets on a single platform.

The company is also developing mobile applications, perpetual futures trading features, and cross-chain abstraction tools. All these features are designed to make the experience of trading in the onchain world as easy as using a centralized exchange platform (CEX).

Finzer explained that in the early days, OpenSea’s focus was on bringing artists, collectors, and gamers into the Web3 world through NFTs. But now, the next phase is to provide a unified platform for users to manage and trade various types of assets without the need to rely on custodial intermediaries.

“Our users shouldn’t have to get lost in a maze of chains, bridges, wallets, and protocols just to be able to access onchain liquidity. They shouldn’t be confused about whether their balance is in Solana, Ethereum L2, or somewhere else. They just need to be able to trade everything in one place – seamlessly,” said the OpenSea CEO.

Notably, this change in direction has already begun to yield positive results for the old NFT platform. This transformation has also shown promising results.

During the month, OpenSea recorded a trading volume of over $2.6 billion, with over 90% coming from token trading.

Data from DeFiLlama also shows that on October 15, OpenSea recorded its highest daily decentralized trading volume of $462.7 million, making it one of the fastest growing DEX platforms in the highly competitive DeFi space.

These numbers mark the resurgence of OpenSea, which had previously been outpaced by newer platforms. With the SEA token launch fast approaching, OpenSea is now positioning itself as the core liquidity layer for the broader onchain economy-not just an NFT marketplace.
