Jakarta, Pintu News – Gemini, a crypto exchange platform, is preparing to launch prediction market contracts regulated by the US derivatives regulator. The move is the latest attempt by the Winklevoss-led company to expand its product scope beyond crypto trading.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Gemini is in the process of gaining approval for a derivatives exchange application submitted in May to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The plan will allow users to trade event-based contracts, which include sports, politics, and economic outcomes.
However, this progress has been hampered by the ongoing US government shutdown, which may delay the review of new regulations. If approved, Gemini will compete directly with Kalshi, which already operates under a CFTC license, and Polymarket, which is seeking to re-enter the US market in full. Other platforms such as Robinhood have chosen to partner with Kalshi rather than apply for their own exchange approval.

Following its initial public offering in September, Gemini revealed plans to diversify its products into financial forecasting products. The move aims to attract new retail and institutional users. Although its shares are trading about 40% below its debut price, analysts see the forecasting market as a potential growth path.
Gemini is not only focusing on product expansion, but also strengthening its compliance reputation. With a BitLicense from New York, Gemini has the potential to gain early confidence in a market that still faces regulatory uncertainty.

Gemini is not the only company racing to capture the rapidly growing prediction market. Coinbase, Gemini’s main US rival, has also signaled plans to launch event contracts as part of their “Everything Exchange” strategy. In addition, larger traditional players such as CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange are also exploring similar offerings.
Prediction markets offer a great opportunity for these companies to utilize advanced data and analytics in predicting the outcomes of various global events. This creates new opportunities for investors and users to engage in event-driven trading.
With careful preparation and the right strategy, Gemini has great potential to become a key player in the regulated prediction market. While there are some regulatory hurdles that need to be overcome, the long-term outlook shows a lot of promise for this expansion. Market watchers will be eagerly awaiting Gemini’s next move.
