The Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) is a protocol that provides evidence of attendance at events, whether in-person or virtual, through unique digital tokens or NFTs. It functions as a blockchain-based alternative to the conventional social media “check-in,” safeguarding user data.

POAP initially introduced at the ETHDenver Convention 2019, a hackathon event. The event rewarded participants with distinctive badges. These badges were created using the ERC-721 token standard, making them secure and irreplaceable NFTs.
